The Yarra Valley's local, family operated fruit and vegetable market that also specialises in meat, dairy and associated products. They have an outstanding variety of carefully selected produce that, where possible and in season, is sourced from local growers. LAUNCH FRESH = FARM FRESH
Before we established the Uganda Community Farm's very first Ginger Nursery on November 2, 2014 in Kagulu (Buyende district), we first visited and consulted with Mpaasa Moses--a renowned Ginger grower--on October 28, 2014. Moses Mpaasa is perhaps the most experienced Ginger farmer in the entire Eastern Uganda. So, in this video, he shows us how he uses every space on his land--starting right from his house's veranda--to grow the crop. He also explains the quantity (less than half a Kg) of seed (i.e. Ginger rhizomes) that he used to grow this particular section just behind his house, and the harvest he expects to get out it after 10 months.
Spokane's first time getting Congolese coffee! These beans come from small remote communities scattered amid the mountain highlands surrounding Lake Kivu in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. "We have lived through civil war and in great poverty for many years, but since forming our cooperative Sopadi, despite our challenges, we also feel full of hope. For the first time we have good buyers for our coffee, who buy from us directly. Our homes are basic, without electricity, running water and other amenities. But our families are back together and we are re-building our communities."

While some places are on this list due to armed conflicts and violence, other places are on the list thanks to physical or biological calamities. Regardless of the reasons, the one thing all of these places have in common is that most western governments do not advise travel to them unless it is absolutely necessary. These are the 25 most dangerous places to visit as a tourist. Also, before we continue, just remember, being on this list doesn't necessarily mean the entire country is bad to visit (although it can). Just make sure to check on regional travel warnings. Warlords, soldiers, and child laborers all toil over a mineral you've never even heard of. Coltan is a conflict mineral in nearly every cell phone, laptop, and electronic device. It's also tied to the deaths of over 5 million people in Congo since 1990. Lonely Planet Traveller magazine (http://bit.ly/lpmagazine) went to Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo earlier this year, to explore the fascinating 'sapeur' subculture. --- "Sapeur stands for Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes (Society of Tastemakers and Elegant People). It’s a legacy of the French colonial era, and not just a way of dressing but a way of life. A sapeur must be kind and cheerful, and cannot do evil to people. For me, clothes are a pleasure – they make me happy. When I walk down the street in Brazzaville, everyone looks at me and they call out. They shout ‘Vieux la Mam’ – a nickname which comes from the name of the restaurant where I used to work as a cook. They see an old man with white hair, but say: ‘He dresses well, we must do what he does.’ Even the ...
After finally receiving my scooter in Franceville, Gabon I made the trip towards the Congo. But again, it wasn't without any lack of drama. I had two flat tires before I even made it to the border. I was planning on hitting the sand road of the Congo by about 8am, but with the flats, and the fact I was in the middle of nowhere, I didn't hit the sand until about 1030. The sand road in the Congo was absolutely grueling. There were so many times driving the road towards Oyo that I just about quit and set up at the side of the road to sleep for the night. Following the sand day I crashed at the house of a Lebanese expat for the night and pushed on to Brazzaville. Two days later, and I arrive at the outskirts of Brazzaville, Congo. But my visa expires today, so what will I do? Stay tuned....
Brazzaville is the capital and largest city of the Republic of the Congo and is located on the Congo River. As of the 2007 census, it had a population of 1.37 million. The projection of the CNSEE (national statistics centre) shows an increase to 1.7 million by 2015, but the projection was made before 2007 and based on a lower estimate of the population (1.26 million) than recorded in the census. The United Nations Population Division estimate for 2014 is 1.83 million. The populous city of Kinshasa (more than 10 million inhabitants in 2014), capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, lies across the Congo River from Brazzaville. Together with Kinshasa, the combined conurbation of Kinshasa-Brazzaville has thus about 12 million inhabitants (although significant political and infrastruct...
